BAND WEEKNDS

Hosting the Community Band weekend!

Consider this a unique opportunity to attract like-minded musicians together from all parts of the province to your city or town!  Hosting our CBW provides your ensemble with countless experiences and opportunities such as:

  • exposure to other musicians, composers, conductors
  • offers our participants the opportunity learn more about your ensemble/organization, your values, aspects about how you operate
  • repertoire and programming ideas
  • offers countless networking opportunities

During the intensive weekend-long event, musicians rehearse and perform in a massed band setting under the baton(s) of 4-5 established conductors who generously volunteer their time.  The event is built and structured around your organizational needs so as to avoid any interference or disruption to your schedule, or operational budget. We want to ensure this experience benefits your organization, and not set you back!

FAQ

How much does it cost to host a Band Weekend?
Nothing.  There are no additional costs or fees associated with hosting this event.  The only costs associated are those that you have budged for your regular concert series (concert venue) should you choose to build the CBW around your concert.

Does CBA-Ontario offer any financial support?
Yes!  CBA-Ontario has allocated a specific budget to help cover the costs of rehearsal venue or concert venue.  Although this figure is limited, the amount is determined based on the structure negotiated for the weekend.

Is a CBA-Ontario membership required prior to hosting!
Yes!  Only members in good standing are eligible to host one of our band weekends. Although any ensemble may apply to host, they are encouraged to join anytime prior to the proposed weekend. By joining, host ensemble musicians will automatically become eligible to receive discounted registration rates for any future event we host.

What is the host ensemble responsible for?
Because this event is hosted across the province, we ask that the host ensemble/organization assist us with some of the logistical aspects of the event.  This includes:

  • rehearsal and Concert venue booking
  • restaurant / Pub reservations for social gathering events scheduled
  • hotel group reservation booking
  • confirm available equipment (percussion, chairs, stands etc)
  • book and arrange catering for light lunch
  • any other tasks commonly associated with preparing for your concert (tickets, programs etc)

To expedite the above tasks, it is recommended that the host ensemble create a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) with one person appointed to lead and communicate with our CBW Coordinator who oversees the entire CBW event and its scheduling.

What is the CBA-Ontario responsible for?
We will look after the rest!  This includes....

  • event promotion to our member organizations and individuals
  • event advertising on web, social media, newsletters etc
  • Feature host ensemble on web and social media
  • provide necessary funding where required
  • registration management
  • arrange for equipment rentals
  • arrange for percussion rentals
  • poster, program design (if required)
  • event Scheduling
  • repertoire coordination and finalization by our Artistic Director
  • invitation of guest artists, clinicians, and conductors
